Pape 42, custom multi-chine aluminum built  by MetalCraft Marine in 1995 (finished by Aslin Boatbuilding and first sailed in 1997). After 1000’s of miles of coastal and offshore sailing in Atlantic Canada the boat is just returning north from a very successful winter season in the Grenadines. This is an easy, forgiving boat to sail, handy, with a good turn of speed, she’s a proven passage maker that easily makes 150 miles a day and has done best days runs of over 180 miles. A tough all weather boat that has stood up well when tested by the heavy stuff, showing the virtues of substantial displacement and a refined full keel with attached rudder, plus traditional good looks with balanced ends and a lovely sheer.

LOA 42.25’; LWL 30.5’; Beam 12.0’; Depth 6.25’

Simple, well finished interior with white panels and mahogany trim, green upholstery. Aft cockpit, aft cabin layout that has proven great for cruising, offering both privacy and convenience.   Secure U shaped galley.

Sturdy cutter rig with Isomat mast, adjustable back stay, dyneema running backs etc.

New Beta 50 engine in 2020, now with about 300 hours, new adjustable pitch J Prop 2022. New Raritan head 2022. Four new custom ports in the doghouse 2022; all standing rigging except forestay replaced with new 316 wire in 2020 and 2021. 30kg Excel anchor 2021, Dickinson heater 2021. Etcetera. Over $35,000 invested over the last two years.

Generally in great shape and ready to cruise. Could use some paint and varnish touch ups but presents very well.

Comprehensive survey in May 20221 found the boat to be in excellent condition, including ultrasound testing which showed all metal plate thicknesses to be as built with zero wastage over the years.

As designer Alan Pape said of a near sister vessel:

“The long keel coupled with a rudder hung on the sternpost with a modest amount of rake indicate good directional stability which is a necessity in serious cruisers.

The deep sections, good freeboard and ample beam make for a seakindly, stiff and dry, hull besides giving adequate headroom without having to resort to a coachroof over other than the galley and chart area….

…This type of vessel is unashamedly a cruising yacht in the true sense of the word. No rating rule is incorporated in her make-up and because of this she has no vices and time will not put her out of fashion. As no attempt has been made to skimp on weight or quality of structural materials, she will have a long and useful life.”
