FULL SPECS

As a Mainship 430 with a three stateroom galley up configuration, “Quest”, is an excellent example of a very popular aft cabin trawler that has sustained a successful production run from 1999 to 2006. Her hull design, innovative engineering, modern construction methods, and high level of creature comforts has withstood the test of time both as a long distant cruiser and as a live-a-board. Quest is not only in exceptional condition, but comes fully factory equipped as a “turn-key” vessel with the following key added features: twin, Cummins 330 hp, Diamond Series diesels with 2,200 hours; engine synchronizers; FloScan engine monitoring; dual Racor filters with vacuum gauge on each engine; X-Change automatic engine oil changing system; Kohler 8Kw genset with 1500 (estimated) hours and easy-reach Racor filter; hydraulic steering; trim tabs; dripless shafts; spare props and spare shaft; heavy duty, custom, flybridge mast with electronic array; KVH, TracVision Satellite, Direct TV receiver; Furuno Navnet Electronics with Furuno 1943C on flybridge with two 10.5 inch color screens and 64 nm open radar array; Furuno 7 inch slave color screen at lower helm; Furuno depth sounding units at flybridge and lower helm; Raytheon G50 autopilot; EPIRB 406; St. Croix stainless steel dinghy davits with block and tackle;  Lewmar Pro1000 windlass w/remote controls; 200 gallon per day watermaker (included but not installed); flatscreen TVs (saloon and master aft cabin); three, zoned, air conditioning units; sunscreens on all windows; Splendid washer/dryer;  Tempur-Pedic, aft cabin, queen mattress; fresh water VacuFlush heads; and full Strataglass flybridge enclosure with bimini.

VESSEL OVERVIEW

Based on the popular age-tested design of the Grand Banks 36 and 42 trawlers, the Mainship Corporation, in 1996, applied this concept, and produced a new line of semi-displacement trawlers which took full advantage of contemporary design, space, and comfort. “Quest” is a product of this innovative thinking, and comes to market as the popular Mainship 430, fast trawler with: enclosed flybridge; aft sundeck; and a very spacious, three (3) cabin, galley-up arrangement. Her forward cabin includes a large V-berth, enclosed head, and guest stateroom with two single berths. The galley, inside helm, and saloon area is up from the forward cabin, and provides a large communal area for lounging, cooking and entertaining. The master stateroom is aft and down from the saloon, and includes an athwartships queen with ensuite head. Each cabin is well equipped with its own air conditioning unit and privacy doors to limit traffic and promote comfort.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Quest’s interior is airy and lavishly appointed with: varnished, teak laminate on all bulkheads and furniture; varnished teak and holly saloon sole; beige, UltraLeather upholstery on thick saloon cushions; designer fabric covering all forward cushions; high grade, beige carpeting in forward and aft cabins; Levolor blinds or curtains on all windows and ports; and a soft overhead cabin liner with overhead lighting complemented by cabin floor and step courtesy lights. All cabins have ample passive lighting and ventilation with: then (10) opening ports; three (3) overhead opening hatches, two (2) overhead vents; fixed and opening saloon windows; and one (1) forward center opening window at the inside helm. Quest can sleep six (6) adults in complete privacy.

Forward Stateroom

The forward stateroom is a very spacious and comfortable sleeping/living environment for two (2) adults with: six-feet plus (6’+) standing headroom; large six-foot five-inch (6’5”) long V-berth; thick six-inch (6”) mattresses; and designer, beige/brown, checkered fabric covering both mattresses. Storage within this cabin is plentiful with: a double storage locker forward and above the berth; four (4) drawers below; storage shelves and bins outboard on either side; and cedar lined hanging lockers port and starboard of the V-berth. Passive lighting and ventilation within the forward stateroom is excellent with three (3) opening ports with screens, and one (1) large overhead hatch with screen. This cabin also has its own privacy door, courtesy floor lighting, and: four (4), flush-mounted, overhead lights; two (2) reading lamps forward of the V-berth; two (2) 120V outlets; one (1) CO2 detector; and one (1) portable fire extinguisher. For seasonal comfort, the forward cabin area (inclusive of the forward stateroom, guest stateroom and forward enclosed head) has its own air conditioning unit with thermostat control.

Forward Guest Stateroom

The forward guest stateroom is directly aft and to port of the V-berth, and is one (1) step down from the forward passageway. This cabin provides excellent sleeping accommodations for either two (2) adults, or a cozy den for children. While not as spacious as the forward stateroom, this cabin does have: six-feet plus (6’+) standing headroom forward; two (2), single, six-foot five-inch (6’5”) berths running fore and aft; thick mattresses covered in a striped, designer, beige/brown fabric; storage space below each berth; a large cedar lined hanging locker forward and outboard of the berths with a storage above; and a teak laminated privacy door. This cabin also has excellent lighting and ventilation with: four (4) flush-mounted overhead lights; reading lamps at each berth; courtesy floor lights; one (1) opening port with screen; and one (1), small, overhead opening hatch. Other items included in the guest stateroom are: one (1) 120V outlet; air conditioning duct; CO2 detector; and one (1) portable fire extinguisher located in forward cabin passageway.

Forward Enclosed Head

One of the special features of the Mainship 430 is that there are two (2) identical, fully equipped heads fore and aft. The forward enclosed head has all the conveniences of a regular bathroom with: over six-feet (6’) of standing headroom; a long vanity with Corian counter top; porcelain sink; designer faucets; hot/cold pressure water; mirrored medicine cabinet with vanity lighting above; and abundant storage below the countertop. Immediately aft of the vanity is a fresh water, Vac-U-Flush toilet with holding tank, macerator and valve for discharge in legal areas. Adjacent to the toilet is a stand-up shower stall with seat, glass door enclosure, hot/cold hand shower, and shower sump pump for overboard drainage. The forward head also has: an air conditioning vent; Tankwatch III holding tank monitor; one 120V GFCI outlet; and overhead lighting in head and shower stall areas.

Galley and Inside Helm

Entrance to the galley/inside helm area is four (4) steps up from the forward cabin passageway. As you ascend the stairway the galley will be directly to port, and the inside helm will be to starboard. While this upper level is essentially open to the saloon and navigation station, there is sufficient visual separation of space created by both the helm seat and aft galley cabinetry. Within this forward area there are: port and starboard sliding doors providing quick and easy access to the deck; three (3) large forward windows with the center window opening; windshield wipers on all forward windows; sunscreens on all forward and side windows; two (2) overhead, flush-mounted lights; two (2) overhead stereo speakers; and two (2) passive overhead ventilators.

Inside Helm

The inside helm, which is to starboard, has a double, UltraLeather, beige bench seat with folding footrest under. When seated you will have an excellent forward view for piloting, and easy command of both engines. The engine console, which is directly forward and composed of cherry wood laminate, is traditional in design and has: a solid teak wheel; full engine instrumentation; port and starboard throttles; trim tabs; windlass controls; engine synchronizer; helm compass; and a SeaFire, emergency, engine shut-down system.

Main Saloon and Navigation/Computer Station Main Saloon

The Mainship design team has done an excellent job of extending the 15’6” beam of the 430 as far as possible to create a very roomy main saloon. This cabin, which has a beautiful teak and holly sole with rugs, forms a communal area for socializing and entertainment, and is accessible from inside the cabin from either the forward or aft staterooms, or outside on deck, from the galley/inside helm side doors, or the saloon aft sundeck door. To starboard of the saloon is Quest’s entertainment area with a removable upholstered chair in front, and an array of storage shelves and cabinets behind housing the vessel’s TV and audio systems. Immediately to port is a very comfortable, U-shaped settee covered in a soft, UltraLeather, beige upholstery with: a central vacuuming system below; two (2) decorative shell lights above; and a beautiful varnished teak table in front. Aft of the saloon is a teak laminated staircase leading up, via a sliding door, to the aft sundeck. The saloon has excellent lighting and ventilation with: large fixed and opening windows port and starboard with screens; six (6) flush-mounted overhead lights; and a dedicated air conditioning unit with thermostat control. To minimize the effect of passive sunlight and create privacy, all windows in the saloon have either aluminum Levolor blinds and/or sunscreens.

Navigation/Computer Station

The navigation or computer station is in the main saloon, and directly to starboard of the aft sundeck companionway. This station is aft facing, has it own upholstered sit-down, beige. UltraLeather, chair with a Corian top chart table, and Quest’s 12V/120V electrical panels above. The navigation station has a storage locker above, is wired with a jack, and has a KVH/PC interface connection that will allow you upload latest KVH software.

Master Stateroom and Ensuite Head

The master stateroom is aft, and three (3) steps down from the main saloon. As you descend the stairway you will quickly notice that this cabin carries almost the full beam of the vessel. Immediately to port is an athwartships, island queen berth with: a new Tempur-Pedic mattress ; two (2) night stands (one on either side of the berth); two (2) reading lights at the head of the berth; and storage drawers under the berth. Included in the master stateroom is: a full set of storage lockers lining the aft side of the cabin; an aft exit door to the cockpit; large, cedar lined closet; TV on a swivel bracket; AM/FM/CD player with speakers; two (2) 120V outlets; phone jack; CO2 detector; portable fire extinguisher; four (4) opening ports with screens and curtains; three (3) flush-mounted overhead lights; courtesy floor lights; and a dedicated air conditioning unit with thermostat control.

Ensuite Head

The ensuite head is immediately to starboard of the island queen berth, and has: a privacy door; vanity with Corian counter top with storage above and below; mirror; porcelain sink; designer faucet; hot/cold pressure water; GFCI 120V outlet; one (1) opening port with screen; and one air conditioning vent. Adjacent to the vanity is a fresh water, Vac-U-Flush head with holding tank and Tankwatch III monitor, macerator, and valve for overboard discharge in legal waters. The enclosed, stand-up shower stall with glass doors, hand shower, and sump pump, in directly forward of toilet.

The galley is up, directly to port of the inside helm, on the same level as the saloon, and divided into two convenient athwartship sections. HULL, FLYBRIDGE & DECK

Hull

The Mainship 430 has a modified-V planning hull with deep forefoot, full-bodied sections and a full-length keel. At lower speeds, the 430 acts like a displacement hull, and will push water aside easily at eight knots (8 knots). However, at higher speeds she will run on the flatter surface of her hull near the twelve (12) degree deadrise at the stern allowing the 430 to get on plane. The hull is constructed as a solid fiberglass laminate below the waterline with a cored composite above. The deck and interior superstructure is also of composite construction.

Flybridge

Quest's flybridge is very roomy and capable of easily siting six (6) adults. As you ascend the molded fiberglass steps from the aft sundeck, you will quickly notice the long, easy to manage, engine console with: a double, vinyl covered, helm seat; SS wheel; full engine instrumentation; engine controls; electronics, trim tabs; engine synchronizer; windlass controls; and venturi windshield. Aft to port is a long L-shaped vinyl covered settee with a molded fiberglass table. To starboard is a long vinyl settee with storage under. Overhead, is a full, SS, framed bimini with a recent, beige, Sunbrella covering. Along all sides, and enclosing this area, are removable Strataglass curtains with U-shaped, zip-out centers to promote flow-through ventilation, and keep all occupants warm during inclement weather. Adjacent to the flybridge is a custom, heavy duty, hinged mast with Quest’s open radar array and electronic antennas attached. To support socialization and entertainment, this area also has its own stereo system with speakers.

Deck

Quest’s deck has been very carefully engineered to provide easy and safe passage fore and aft. Her bulwarks are deep with sturdy railings and handholds. She has a wide working foredeck, and an aft cockpit with entrance to the master stateroom. As a trawler, Quest also has a very spacious aft sundeck with stainless steel railings, an entrance door to the main saloon, and enough decks space to store a ten-foot (10’) dinghy. Other deck features and equipment include:

  • Sunscreens on all Windows and Entrance Doors
  • Side Curtains for Sundeck Railing
  • Lewmar Pro1000 Windlass w/Foot and Remote Controls
  • Two (2), Folding, Vinyl Upholstered, Deck Chairs

MECHANICAL

Quest is powered by: twin; Cummins; Diamond Series; 330 hp; 6BTA5.93; FWC; turbo charged diesels. Power is transferred, via hydraulic ZF-HSW800A2 transmissions with 1:6:1 ratio, to: 1 ¾ inch SS straight shafts; dripless packing glands; and two (2), four (4) bladed, 24x16, bronze propellers. Quest also has two (2), four (4) bladed, 24x17 spare props stored under the forward V-berth. Steering and throttle controls are assisted by a Seastar hydraulic system manufactured by Teleflex. Fuel flow and filtration is managed on each engine by twin, switch-on-the-fly, Racor water separators/filters with vacuum gauges. A FloScan system is also included on the starboard engine only to monitor fuel consumption. Both engines have Glendinning synchronizers, trim tabs, and a SeaFire, automatic emergency shutdown system with a MA2 type canister for fire engine suppression. Changing engine oil is very easy, as both engines are connected to an electric Oil X-Changer System. Normal access to Quest’s 4’4” high engine room is by way of the forward cabin staircase which easily lifts up providing access to the vessel’s washer/dryer and master electrical panel. Immediately forward is a door which opens into the engine room. Maintenance is relatively easy, and addition access to the engines can be obtained via two (2) cabin sole hatched in the main saloon.

COMMENTS

The Mainship 430 is a very comfortable, easy to manage, coastal and/or Bahamas trawler that has withstood the test of time, and can provide very economical travel, or accelerate to plane if the moment requires.

All three  owners have taken exceptional care of this yacht!

Manufacturer Provided Description

The Mainship 430 Trawler has taken a classic design and improved it through innovative engineering, and modern manufacturing methods. Since its inception 20 years ago, Mainship has produced thousands of boats - mostly in the trawler family. The focus has been, and continues to be, in building high-quality, low maintenance diesel cruisers that are comfortable and affordable. The 430 Trawler has a fully instrumented lower helm that allows operation during inclement weather, and is equipped with full washers and wipers. The comfortable and adjustable pilot seat doubles as a great place to store the large standard freezer. From the expansive flybridge, captains have a full unobstructed view to all points. Both overhead and console space have been dedicated to electronic needs. Aft of the standard radar mast, are molded steps with diamond non-skid leading to the aft deck which is large enough to store a tender. Sturdy aluminum rails offer excellent handholds, and the cockpit is lowered for safer and easier entry to the full-size swim platform that includes a convenient swim ladder, and freshwater shower. Heading to the integrated pulpit is safe for all with the wide decks and high bulwarks of the 430. The split anchor well will handle plenty of rode and an extra Danforth, and includes a washdown. Fore and aft shorepower outlets allow for choice of docking. The port and starboard cabin doors make shorthanding a snap as well. Counter space is usually at a premium on a boat of this size, but the galley on the 430 Trawler is a chef's paradise with plenty of Corian-covered counters, an oversize sink, a three-burner range, a microwave - convection oven, a refrigerator, and loads of storage. All this is on the same level as the salon and has its own deck access door. Dining or entertaining, the comfortable salon with sealed teak and holly sole is warm and inviting. Two occasional chairs flank the entertainment center and the dinette is large enough for the crew. Even an office - chart table is included. Three staterooms have abundant storage, hanging lockers, and tasteful fabrics. The master even features a queen-size inner-spring mattress to assure a great night's sleep.
